Owning a Stand-to-Pee (STP) prosthesis can be a massive lifestyle game-changer. However, many beginners who just got their first STP often run into an awkward little mishap during their first few tries: "Wait, why is it leaking?"
Don't panic! Leaking is almost never a quality defect; it usually just comes down to angles, posture, or positioning. Here are 3 core troubleshooting tips to help you banish the awkwardness!
Tip 1: Check for "Side Leaks"—Adjust Your Leg Spacing
Why it happens: Sometimes, when standing to pee, your legs are standing too close together, causing your inner thighs to squeeze the sides of the drainage trough and distort the channel, leading to overflow.
The Fix: When urinating, slightly adjust your stance to leave enough natural space between your legs, ensuring the trough isn't compressed by your thighs.
Tip 2: Check for "Back Leaks"—Adjust the Placement Further Back
Why it happens: The prosthesis is positioned too far forward in your underwear or harness, causing fluid to spill over the rear edge before it enters the channel.
The Fix: Shift the prosthesis further back, pressing the rear end of the trough snugly against your body to eliminate any gaps and ensure smooth drainage.
Tip 3: Control Flow Rate and Body Tilt (The Golden 26–30 Degree Angle)
Why it happens: Beginners often feel tense, or rush the process out of urgency, pushing fluid too fast for the funnel to clear. Standing too upright can also mess up the gravity angle.
The Fix:
Don't force or strain; stay relaxed and regulate your flow like normal urination.
Lean your upper body slightly forward and raise the rear trough to keep the prosthesis at roughly a 26–30 degree downward slope, letting gravity do the work naturally.
💡 Beginner Practice Tip
When starting out, avoid public restrooms entirely! Spend the first 3 days practicing in the privacy and comfort of your own home until you find the right angle and secure setup (using specialized tight underwear or our Easy-Tape adhesive).
Once you get the hang of it, standing to pee will become second nature!
